Announcements Solar Pump Installed
Thanks to the herculean efforts of Hilary Kumnick, Eric Auer
Sr and Eric Auer Jr, the solar pump is up and working! The water stations
in the gardens are operational. Please make sure to follow directions posted
at the control panel inside the shed. There is enough pressure to water
from two stations at one time. No unattended watering!
Wood Chips & Weeds
We need help spreading the wood chips on the paths. This will help with the weeds and help keep moisture in the soil. If everyone could spread a wheelbarrow or two, we can be finished in no time.
Also, you are responsible for taming the weeds on and around your plot and paths. Please do your part. Have a Seat!
Thank you to Joe Ferjak, carpenter extrordinairre,
for constructing our new picnic tables. A perfect place to take a break or enjoy the view.
Gardens Receive State Funding
Thanks to Rep. Brian O'Connor, the Community Gardens project has received a $10,000 state grant.

The Killingworth Community Gardens' mission is
to provide residents with an opportunity to come together for the purpose
of food production, environmental education and to encourage
multi-generational gatherings. Individuals and groups at all levels
of gardening expertise are welcome. Planning for the gardens started in early summer 2007. They opened in the spring of 2008.
The gardens are located at Parmelee Farm, 465 Route 81 (map), just north of the HK Middle School. There are 24 20ft x 20ft plots available. The 133-acre town-owned property is open to the public for passive recreation. The 19th century farmhouse as well as most the out buildings are not open at this time. The small shed adjacent to the property is available for storage. Parking is available in front of the farmhouse as well as in front of the gardens. The Community Gardens are administered by the Town Land Use Committee. The Land Use Committee meets once a month at the Town Office building at 323 Route 81. Thank You Community Sponsors!
